Cape poncho9/4/2023 I've finally upgraded my setup, but I can promise you that this little guy will continue to accompany me on all of my ultralight missions, or anything wherein my discreet low-volume pack is the travel companion of choice. It also makes a great conversation piece, as everyone is curious and a little skeptical to start, followed by intrigued, followed by sold in pretty much every introduction that is made. Cape is longer, generally reaches to the hip or upper thigh, than a poncho. Saint Laurent provides fringed ponchos and leopard prints, whilst Valentino slips you into braided-edge designs or sequin-embellished sleeveless ponchos. Cape generally covers the back part of the body, whereas poncho covers both front and back of the body. British brand Burberry may have started out with a trench coat, but now Burberry capes keep you looking just as timeless with Icon stripe detailing and silk styles. This particular maneuver takes some practice, but trust me, with the longevity of the tent in mind, you will have plenty of time to perfect this art. Cape is a single piece of fabric thrown over the shoulder, on the contrary, the poncho is worn by a pull over the head. That means that I don't even have to take my pack off during a storm to get it pitched. Not to be understated, this badboy can be set up while you are still wearing it. This means that it comes with me pretty much everywhere, conveniently living in the outer avalanche shovel pouch on my old patrol pack. As a primary shelter and primary rain gear+pack fly, including dedicated carbon fiber pole, ground cloth, guylines and tent stakes, the whole thing comes in well under 3 pounds and consumes a total pack volume comparable to a large water bottle. The convenience of this piece of gear cannot be overstated. My guess is that this tent and I have had more than 300 nights together in total and it is still working very well, with the exception of a slight bit of fraying at the bottom of the zipper panel against the zipper, where all of the stress is when taughtly pitched. A-You can wear any kind of top under the cape even if it has bat sleeves. 1-Under the Cape: While these ideas aren’t much different than layering under the poncho, I’ll reiterate them anyways. In fact, the term can sometimes be used interchangeably. This is the only part of the process in which it's possible to make a serious mistake - defects in your head hole may be visible on the finished poncho. The Gatewood Cape has been my go-to shelter for more than 13 years and it has never once let me down or failed in any regard, across multiple continents during through-hiking, mountaineering, field work, travel, casual backpacking, cross-country and international hitchhiking, climbing trips, car camping, campouts, backwoods keggers, you name it. Remember all capes can be very different just as ponchos. For example, to make a circular head hole, cut a half-circle centered at the middle of the folded edge, to make a diamond, cut a triangle centered at the middle of the folded edge, etc. Full of elegance this large cape has a large opening allowing you to quickly put on your. To make a differently-shaped head hole, cut a shape into your folded fabric centered at the midpoint of the folded edge. As an accessory, the capes ponchos are precious in a modern dressing. A stylish poncho that comes with a handy storage bag so that you can easily bring it with you if you suspect the weather is about to change for the worst. Head holes on ponchos don't have to be boring slits.Generally, about 12 inches (30 cm) (6 inches on either side of the folded edge's center) is large enough. The hole you make may be the size of your choosing - it just has to be big enough for your head to fit through.
